I apologize for the disappearance - a couple of days after my last update (August 17th), my dad fell ill and has been in the hospital ever since.
I also took a solo weekend trip to the Oregon Coast to clear my head and help close some old doors and leave some of them open. It was a successful trip, as it helped me envision where my future does and does not lie.
Along with that, I've spent time working my usual 48 hours a week, visiting Dad in the hospital, and helping my mom cope with my dad's illness. I'm also trying to spend some time with my girlfriend (our schedules only meet up on the weekends) and delve deeper into my Everything in Chime project. Another thing I'm working on is shoring up time-wasters like reading the news, reading message forums, and playing games without purpose (aka clickers), and trying to figure out my next steps.
So yeah, busy.
As far as the sonic exploration goes, I've spent enough time with the Everything in Chime project that I can tell that other ideas are forming from it, though I may still be able to get an album out of it.
With the new ideas, I get excited and think that I should start a whole new project, website, Twitter feed, etc. After about 24 hours, I settle my teakettle and realize that I'll create it under my name, and it'll be a new album/project/sound-based idea.
I've also returned to reading books, which I've needed to do for a while, as I have quite the backlog. I picked up "The 5 Dharma Types" by Simon Chokoisky, a guidebook to understanding one's place in life. I've only made it through the first chapter so far, which has the self-tests to determine your dharma. Unsurprisingly to me, I've tested as an "Outsider," which means I blend in everywhere but fit in nowhere - story of my life. There's more to it than that, but I haven't read that chapter yet.
Along with all that, I still have ideas for this website that I want to create and some NES/SNES games (and FAM/SFC translations) I want to revisit or visit for the first time. Things are coming together, but there's still some more cleaning to do.
Oh yeah, the cleaning. While I'm shoring up time wasters, I also have the fun tasks of decluttering, unsubscribe from e-mail subscriptions, clean out inboxes, delete bookmarks, and close old accounts, and continue to streamline how I spend my time. As much as I've overused this phrase in my personal life (thanks to Devin Townsend doing so), it's a process.
I think that's it. I think that's enough. I think that's more than enough, but I got myself into this mess, and now I need to get myself out of it, one step at a time.
To the homepage.
